Spontaneous applause erupted (from me) the second day back in the United States, because we saw this sign in a Wendy's restaurant on the road headed to Jason's parents' house for Christmas. Yum!

Americans love cows too, we just prefer to ingest them.

(Oh, and for those of you who aren't aware, my posts aren't always in chronological order, I just found this on my phone and it made me laugh. Hope it does the same for you.)

My mother-in-law flew back to the United States yesterday after a week's visit, the boys and I spent the day simply re-creating our normal routine. I did some laundry (good news Gena, I only found four things that belong to you!), played with playdough, and went swimming.

Having a visitor in India was great fun, because we got out of the house more often than usual, which means I'll have some fresh pictures coming up in the next few days. (Well, weekdays, I'm taking the weekends off for blogging). So stay tuned for pictures of dirt, turbans, temple art, and maybe even another Christensen Conversation featuring the youngest of the bunch.

Talk to 'ya Monday!

Here's a picture of the Sony Center light in Koramangala, Bangalore. We visit here a lot, because there are many "western attractions" such as Taco Bell, KFC, and a grocery store that stocks a large number of imports. (Fruity Pebbles anyone?) Billboards abound, but I'd like to draw your attention to one in particular.

Pardon my iPhone's quality, but as you can see this sign is listed accident specifics for 2008-2010. Is it just me, or are these numbers really high? 33 DEATHs on the road in 2008 - crazy. Now you know why I'm not a fan of crossing the street here in Bangalore.

We took a different journey to Bangalore this time...instead of flying from Tulsa to Chicago (2 hrs), Chicago to Frankfurt (8.5), then Frankfurt to Bangalore (8.5), we flew Tulsa to Chicago (2hrs), Chicago to Dehli (14hrs!) and Dehli to Bangalore (3hrs).

Can't say I feel any more refreshed. But I'm also not any more exhausted than usual. I think it's time to admit that Bangalore is a LONG way from Oklahoma. I'm really glad the boys still get excited about planes. Below, a couple of views from various airports.

The to-Chicago Plane

The to-Dehli flight - loading up the (literally) car loads of food we'll consume on the way.

Tyler's response to watching the catering crates being loaded? "Are you sure there will be room for us?" My answer  - "There will be, for everything but our legs."

Turns out I was wrong - we actually got very good seats - in the bulkhead with enough leg room that I had to point my toes and stretch to touch the wall in front of us. It was really nice, so thank you American Airlines! It certainly makes the 14 hours more bearable.

Hello India! We're back in Bangalore and this time we brought reinforcements!

Jason's mother decided to make the trip with me and the boys, so we're having a great time showing her around....well, just as soon as we all recover from the jet lag. Even though I'm enjoying the quiet hour or so before the rest of the world is awake at 5am, it's a killer to have to go to bed at 6:30pm. I'm ready to get back on Bangalore time!

The boys and I are quickly running out of time Stateside - so all you US guys, tell us goodbye. All of India, look out, here we come!

For anyone living in the south United States, you've likely heard of Jeff Foxworthy and his "You Might Be a Redneck if.." comedy routine. Well, I'm from the south, and many people would call me a redneck.

But I don't agree. I believe I'm a superhero.

Yes, a superhero.

And here's why. When we moved to India, we were somewhat surprised at the number of times our electricity has gone out. Watching television at the apartment, eating ice cream at a local store, shopping for groceries - all of these things I've attempted to do in the dark. (Some more successfully than others) We just chalked the power problems up to the Bangalore infrastructure and waited for the generator to kick back on.

And now the boys and I are temporarily back in Oklahoma. No more power issues, right? Wrong.

The other day, I went to Ross (a clothing store chain) in Tulsa to do some shopping for Deepta (hi Deepta), as I promised to grab her some shirts for Christmas (or Valentines Day, since it will be closer). I was standing in the checkout line while a teenage girl scanned my items. When she and the other people in the store started gasping, I looked around to figure out what was wrong. Ah, the power was out, and in the United States, it wasn't normal. After 10 minutes with no answers, the store manager encouraged us to leave our purchases at the counter and come back later. (Which I did)

A day later, I went to get my hair "did". The hair was washed, cut, colored, and styled, and I stepped up to the counter to pay with my gift card. No go - the telephone line had gone out, and with it the credit/debit/gift card machine. Five minutes later they got the line up and working....but my gift card still wouldn't work. After another 10 minutes, it was decided my gift card contained no balance (thanks a lot Andy!). So, resigned, I went ahead and paid everything with my debit card, and called Andy to tell her she needed to start pulling bank statements so we could call the corporate office and find out why Andy gave the salon $100 for nothing.

Anyway, by now you should be seeing a pattern. I walk in, things break. My conclusion: There are gamma rays everywhere in Bangalore, and those gamma rays have turned me into a superhero with electronic powers. As soon as I figure out how to harness them, I'll be all set.

So, for all of you out there thinking of moving to Bangalore, here's a little tip. Extended stays turn you into a superhero.
